Custom GameDev OS™: Authoring Tools

The figure illustrates the file explorer, code editor, and the x-file viewer in the GameDev OS that are mainly used by students to perform assignments and projects. The file explorer provides access to files and directories. We have used a design that is similar to the Microsoft Windows File Explorer. The student can access the public “art” directory that contains public 3D models, terrains, textures, shaders, music, sounds, and game resources. The “source” directory contains source codes of games and other tools. The “personal” directory contains the private files of the student (not shared). The code editor is used to edit text-based files. The x-file viewer uses our Web browser plug-in to interactively visualize 3D models, terrains, textures, shaders, music, sounds, and game resources.
