Desktop Application™

The Desktop Application™ is a software application that is installed on the end-users computer. The tool provides a boxshot list of high quality serious games that are offered by game publishers and retailers. The list is automatically updated. The end-user can play the games remotely over the Internet, or download and play them locally.

The end-user can purchase access to the game at the game publisher's or retailer's Web site (i.e. Game Site). We provide a Web browser extension that enables the Game Site to communicate with the Desktop Application to retreive information, activate and show the Desktop Application, issue a DRM license for a game, start a game download, launch a game, etc. The game installation binaries are stored in encrypted form on the Game Site. Game Sites can also send asynchronous messages (i.e. messages near system tray) to end-users about news and updates.

The Desktop Application can also be used to add the Heads-Up Display (HUD) in the games. The HUD can be inserted in any DirectX-based game (i.e. most games), and offers: chat, voice, video recorder, desktop sharing, etc. The Desktop Application and HUD also enable users to upload their game play recordings to the Game Site. Computer games are mainly about fun, and the HUD adds an unique social media enhancement to this computer game experience.

The Desktop Application is available in the system tray, the start menu and the desktop of Windows (similarly to Skype). The Desktop Application is currently available for all versions of Microsoft Windows since 2000 (i.e. Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 and later versions). The remote play tool requires a high quality Internet connection to the game provider. Locally played computer games provide their own system requirements. The Web browser extension of the Desktop Application should be used to retreive and evaluate the system capabilities of the end-user's computer prior to licensing and providing the computer game.
