Geelix® InGame™
Geelix® InGame™ is a service (cloud) where parents and others can socialize to review serious computer games. The desktop application and heads-up display can be used to record and upload video clips to the service. The purpose of the Web site is to enable parents to collaboratively share videos about which games are more serious than others (with respect to educational content and positive values). The Web site is based only on video reviews with ratings for: positive values, educational content (EDU), and parental guidance (PG). The secondary goal of the Web site is to encourage game developers to author serious games. There are very few good serious games available and they are difficult to find. The Web site consists of three main sections: the home page, the videos section, and the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section. We have also added proof of age verification to the Web site that requires the user to provide a basic form of proof of age prior to showing any videos. We have experimented with mathematical questions to check if the user is old enough. For example, "given the equation y = x2 + c, if c=2 and y=6, then what is x?" The assumption with this approach is that children will not be able to answer this question. Although we do not allow any negative values videos on the Web site, it is meant to illustrate a basic approach to protect the youth. A problem with existing Web sites that contain videos with negative values is that they do not provide any mechanisms for protecting young people and children. Most Web sites simply ask the user to input his or her age, or simply display a warning message. Young people and children can easily access the content by inputting a false age.
